Indigo Willing, OAM, is involved with various research, teaching, film and writing projects which focus on diaspora, cultural and transnational adoption communities. Her research interests include transnational families and sociological theories of migration. Her PhD thesis in sociology at UQ focused on the experiences of Australian parents who have adopted children from overseas countries in Asia and Africa. Her MA at UTS, and previous work as a Rockefeller Fellow in the Humanities at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, explored the construction of identity of adopted Vietnamese. She is also the founder of the Adopted Vietnamese International community network. She received a Medal in the Order of Australia in 2006 in recognition for this initiative. Indigo was also the convener of “An Asian-Australian Occasion: Short Film Festival and Panel,” Brisbane 2007.
