Gordon is a heritage consultant with long standing interests in Chinese Australian settlement in tropical Australia. He is the State Library of Queensland John Oxley Research Fellow for 2008 undertaking research in Chinese overland migration between the Northern Territory and Queensland (c1880 – 1920). Gordon has research interests in religious practices and economic activity. He has published on the archaeology of Chinese and Japanese settlement in the tropics. Recent studies have included pig roasting ovens, alluvial mining and temple collections conservation. He was conservation and display project manager for the Atherton, Nth Qld’s rare timber and iron temple (Hou Wang Miao).
The AASRN is a formal network for academic, community and other institutional groups who research in the area of Asian Australian Studies.
