Ching-Yao Luo is a PhD candidate in Cultural Studies at the University of Melbourne, working on Asian Australian visual culture through theatrical performances, cinematic productions, photographs and related art forms. His research interests are racial and gender identities, mobility, transnational diaspora and cultural citizenship. He received his first M.A. in Cultural Studies at National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan, where he completed a book-length thesis on contemporary queer culture in Taiwan; and a second M.A. in Performance Studies at New York University where he concentrated on gender/glocalization issues in Taiwan religious rituals and performances. His essays have been selected and published on Cultural Studies Monthly (e-journal) and a monograph of queer culture and movements in Taiwan.
The AASRN is a formal network for academic, community and other institutional groups who research in the area of Asian Australian Studies.
